C1 3 news... governor beshear saying sunday -- the state's case numbers continue to grow instead of shrink -- and we must do better.

Of the new cases... 116 are in children.

28 of those are kids five and under...the youngest just one month old.

At least 87,607 kentuckians have tested positive for the virus.

Governor beshear also reporting five more people have now died from the virus... bringing the states total to 1,317.

Doctor steven stack says starting today, kentucky will use covid-19 p-c-r tests that are sent electronically to calculate the statewide test positivity rate.

He says these tests are the most reliable in finding active disease in those currently infected.

More than 90 percent of all covid-19 tests currently performed in kentucky are p-c-r tests.
