Stock market today: Asian benchmarks dip after Wall Street's mixed finish

Asian shares are trading mostly lower after Wall Street drifted to a mixed finish. Benchmarks fell early Wednesday in Tokyo, Seoul, Sydney, Hong Kong and Shanghai. Investors were watching for any market impact from the debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. The U.S. dollar has tended to rise when expectations for a Trump reelection have strengthened. The U.S. dollar fell to 141.72 Japanese yen from 142.41 yen., while the euro cost $1.1036, up from $1.1023. Data showed the unemployment rate in South Korea edged down to 2.4% in August 2024, the lowest in a year.
