Stock market today: Asian stocks mixed at the start of a holiday-shortened week

Asian markets are mixed after stocks on Wall Street shook off a choppy start to finish higher on Monday, as it kicked off a holiday-shortened week. U.S. futures were little changed and oil prices rose. Honda shares surged more than 16% as the Japanese auto giant announced an up to 1.1 trillion yen share buyback and also held a merger talk with Nissan on Monday. The S&P 500 rose 0.7% on Monday. Several big technology companies helped support the gains, including chip companies Nvidia and Broadcom. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.2%, and the Nasdaq composite rose 1%.
