Ontario leader will call election to fight Trump's threatened tariffs

The leader of Canada’s most populous province of Ontario says he will be calling a provincial election next week because he says needs a mandate to fight President Donald Trump’s threatened tariffs. Conservative Premier Doug Ford says he will call an early election next Wednesday. Ford has said a trade war is 100% coming. Ontario is Canada’s manufacturing and automobile hub. Trump told reporters in the Oval Office Thursday that he still plans to tariff Canada and Mexico at 25% rates starting as soon as Feb. 1.
