Mexico's economy secretary to meet with Trump officials in US in 'first conversation' on trade

Mexico’s Economic Minister Marcelo Ebrard says that he will meet on Thursday with Trump administration officials in Washington. He says it will be the first of a series of economic negotiations between the two countries. The meeting comes at a fragile moment for the two neighbors, which generated more than $800 billion in bilateral trade last year. U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to impose 25% tariffs on all imports from Mexico and signed an executive order to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America.” Speaking to the press Tuesday, Ebrard seemed determined to avoid escalation.
