Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 became so popular after he wrote it, it eclipsed nearly all his other compositions. Given the impassioned reading by Dutch violinist Simone Lamsma with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra on April 18 and 19, it was easy to see why it remains an audience favorite.
