Erm... what?

A new poll by IpsosMORI has found that a quarter of British people want nightclubs permanently closed.

The new poll was pieced together for *the Economist*, and surveys the population on what COVID measures they'd like to see permanently enacted.

More support for the unemployed? Pay increases for NHS staff, carers, and frontline workers? Depressingly, it seems to be aimed at the nighttime industries.

19% of the population favour ongoing nighttime curfews, while 26% of Brits want casinos and clubs to remain permanently closed.

Staggering.

It comes as nighttime industries across the UK face continuing pressure, reacting to closures and a lack of clear government assistance.

Yet it also reflects *a clear pattern* across the past decade or so of Tory rule; in 2018, 21% of UK clubs closed their doors, while London alone lost more than 50% of its clubs between 2010 and 2016.
