Sir Lenny Henry "Surprised" By Lack Of Diversity In Festival Crowds

He makes the comments in a new interview...

*Sir Lenny Henry* says he is "surprised" by the lack of diversity in festival crowds.

The comedian makes the comment in a new interview in the *Radio Times*, in conversation with BBC journalist and presenter Clive Myrie.

Discussing the return of Glastonbury this summer, he said it's "interesting" that he doesn't see as many people of colour in the audience as he had anticipated.

"It's interesting to watch Glastonbury and look at the audience and not see any Black people there," he says. "I'm always surprised by the lack of Black and Brown faces at festivals. I think, 'Wow, that's still very much a dominant culture thing'."

Glastonbury returns this summer, with headline sets from Sir Paul McCartney, Billie Eilish, and Kendrick Lamar.

In 2019 Stormzy became the first Black solo British headliner in the festival's history. Glastonbury head Emily Eavis *commented* recently:

"He was representing the Black community in a very predominately white festival and obviously that's a really important moment for us, but it's also a little bit late maybe... We should have probably done it before."

Glastonbury runs between June 22nd - 26th.
