Coal Power Plants In Southeast Europe Responsible For Thousands Of Deaths

Excessive sulfur dioxide emissions from coal-fired power plants in the Western Balkans resulted in the death of more than ten thousand people, more than half of them living in the European Union, a new report from CEE Bankwatch, a global NGO network. According to Bloomberg, the report found that 18 power plants in Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Northern Macedonia, had caused the death of as many as 19,000 people over the last three years.
