WHO IS MEHIEL FOUNDATION?Mehiel Foundation is a small charitable organisation based in Oxfordshire, UK, founded in 2010 which has undertaken 31 projects in 11 countries around the world. Its primary aim is to tackle the underlying causes of poverty and social injustice, in order to deliver lasting change in the lives of poor and vulnerable people.WHY EDUCATION?

171 million people could be lifted out of extreme poverty if all children left school with basic reading skills. That’s equivalent to a 12% drop in the world total.

Education increases earnings by roughly 10% per each additional year of schooling.

We strongly believe in helping communities help themselves through education and there is no group more deprived of this basic human right than the young girls in rural African communities.

Together with CELEDI, our local partners in Uganda we have opened on International Women's Day a Vocational School for Girls in the Wakiso District.

Girls of all ages will now have the chance to train in baking, tailoring, hairdressing, cosmetics and computer skills, earning an income and no longer having to rely on others to support them.Feminism isn't about making women stronger. Women are already strong, it's about changing the way the world perceives that strength.Sulaiman Mayanja, the Executive Director of CELEDI, the Ugandan local partner had this to say about the project:"The institute will empower girls out of school with vocational skills such as tailoring, hairdressing, bakery, catering and computer studies to acquire tools for self-reliance".
