Transforming Montrose with a New Community HubMontrose, Scotland – 3 December 2024 – Montrose Community Trust is thrilled to announce it has secured planning permission for the much-anticipated Gable End Development Project, a cornerstone initiative to create a dynamic, inclusive space for cultural, social and educational activities in Montrose and the Angus region.Bringing Big Changes to MontroseThe project is poised to revitalise Montrose FC’s historic Gable End (which gives the team its nickname of the Gable Endies), creating a vibrant hub designed to foster connection, collaboration and opportunity for all members of the community. With state-of-the-art facilities, the venue will support a range of activities including employability workshops, arts and cultural events, and social programmes aimed at enhancing wellbeing and reducing isolation.
The project’s anticipated benefits include:Enhanced Community Engagement: Expected to boost service usage by 30–50% on top of the 12,000 people MCT currently serves annually. Economic Growth: Attracting visitors and hosting events to stimulate the local economy. What’s Next?With planning permission granted, MCT is now focused on securing additional funding to move the project into its next phase. Construction is anticipated to begin in mid-2025, with the new facility projected to open its doors towards the end of next year..
