Researchers at The University of Texas at Austin have identified a geological process currently underway beneath North America: segments of deep continental rock are detaching and descending into the Earth's mantle. This unusual activity, known as "cratonic dripping," provides scientists with a rare opportunity to observe changes in the Earth's lithosphere as they happen. Published in Natu
