Odds are never in the addicts’ favour

At the launch of a pilot scheme to alert young people to the dangers of gambling addiction, someone pointed out that the gambling industry rakes in huge profits every year. They don’t do that by creating lots of winners. For the addict it is the next win which is the goal in life. It doesn’t matter how much has been won, it will be frittered away in the pursuit of more until the money runs dry.
