We are learning more about a triple murder in douglas county.
Kevin adams, now 18, was accused of killing his adopted mother, sister and biological sister in 2017.
He pleaded guilty today to mutliple counts of 1st degree murder.
Kezi 9 news reporter evita garza is live in roseburg to share what went down in the courtroom today.
That right matt, renee... i was in that courtroom earlier&.
And i watched as family and friends weeped as the judge setenced adams to facing 60 years in prison for what he did.
But, because of a new oregon law, he could be out when hes 35&and that not sitting well with the family.
It was november of 2017, when he shot and killed his foster mother, donya adams, foster sister amory adams, and biological sister payshience adams in the family's home near roseburg.
He initially pleaded not guilty... but changed that to guilty today& and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parol.
But... under senate bill 10-08, he must be considered for parol in 15 years?no matter how long the orignal sentence is.
Brenda smith, cousin:?we are in shock just to hear some of the horrible difficult details, also to find out that he could be out in a short amount of time?
Also under 10-08, he could get a second look hearing in 7 years... to evaluate his behavior and see if he's been rehabiliated enough to get out before the 15 years.
Adams will also get credit for the time he served since 2017.
The family has planned a vidgil tonight at 7 to honor the lives of the victims. and, to silently protest senate bill 10-08.
