Waay31s sierra phillips spoke with a woman who went to help protesters after tear gas was used.

She's live at the huntsville police precinct with what the woman says happened.

I spoke with rebecca stover who lives in an apartment just a few blocks from the courthouse she says around 7:15 last night, she left her apartment help protesters after seeing smoke fill the air you're looking at video from last night.

For over an hour, waay 31 watched as law enforcement urged protesters to go home after the permitted rally ended.

Take a listen to what stover says happened next.

Stover- "somebody threw a firework and it didn't land on the police and it was harmless, nobody got hurt by it but it seemed to trigger them off because that was when they started shooting gas and smoke."

You're taking a look at a canister stover says zoomed by her head and landed at her feet.

She says it was smoking when she found it on the ground.

We know there were 24 arrests.

According to police, one of the arrests was a firearms charge, 3 were for receiving stolen property and the rest were for for disorderly conduct.

Police will release more information at the news conference.

Reporting live in huntsville sierra phillips waay31 news.
