Now is a tough time for many Americans.

Peace.brianna?

Now is a tough time for many americans.a lot of them without jobs, stuck at home and watching unrest play out in every city across america, ?including?

Fort wayne!

So i sat down with a local therapist to talk about simple steps on how we could all cope with everything going on.

Many fort wayne residents are having a talk they may have never had.

A conversation about mental health.

Gabriel king"i think it's okay to say "i'm not okay" and to seek help for sure."

The beginning of 2020 was unpredictable to say the least.

First, the covid-19 virus claimed the lives of over 110 thousand people in the united states.

Then the shutdown pushed the unemployment rate to its highest levels since the great depression ... and now racial unrest over police brutality.

Local therapist ruth fearnow says these three steps can help those suffering from anxiety and fear.

Ruth: "dealing with this kind of trauma back to back, i thought maybe the first step to help people out practically was to get a little perspective.

Fearnow says loving yourself plays a vital role in pursuing wholeness."it is really important for us to take care of our response and our mental health and get to a calmer place before we respond.

Fearnow recommends practicing the power of pause when dealing with an influx of emotions.

"step away, stop, breathe and then notice what's going on with you and then name it.

With graphic and sometimes brutal images circulating on social media, many find themselves in a dark place.

Gabriel king"i know for me, i unplugged from social media for like three days because it was too much for me to be constantly scrolling throughout the day."

By gaining perspective, taking care of yourself and taking a pause fearnow says the goal of happiness and peace is sure to come.

In addition to those three steps she says therapy, finding podcasts and influential speakers that cater to your needs can really play a major part of overcoming trauma and gaining peace.

"don't judge yourself, you're human.

Your feelings are valid, even if the logic is not valid even if you know you need to change something or get to a place of forgiveness or whatever it may be, your feelings are valid and you have to acknowledge them and work through them to come to get to a place that's peaceful."
