At nine --- nothing short of miracle in christian county- kentucky.

A deputy -- coming face to face with death -- over the weekend.

The deputy saved -- by a misfire of a the suspect's gun.

Our chief western kentucky bureau reporter - erran huber - has more on the moment that is shocking the region.

Everything's sad in this world right now.

All i can say-- all i can do is pray for them and hope for the best, hope the deputy's ok and i pray for them too.

Many living in christian county we s poke to-- surprised to hear about what happened with one of their own -- who's sworn to protect them.

But perhaps no one in the county was more surprised by this weekend turn of events than sergeant brandon meyers.

Deputies say he was saved from death thanks to a gun misfiring.?he very lucky to be alive.

As far as why the gun malfunctioned, we don know.

Obviously that something wee going to check.

It not clear why yet.

But bradly dunning of dawson springs is accused of pulling the trigger, aiming at the sergeant.

Deputies say sergeant meyers was on routine patrol saturday around 10:00 when he had seen dunning in an atv accident, and he went to go give help.

According to the sheriff's office-- "sergeant meyers began to render aid to this individual.

While he was interacting with this individual, the individual brandished a handgun, and proceeded to pull the trigger, pointing it at sergeant meyer's head."

The christian county sergeant was able to react quickly.

Sergeant meyers was able to take him into custody at that time while he was calling for backup.

He was able to restrain him, ended up charging and arresting him?

Dunning been charged not only with attempted murder of a police officer and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

Deputies also say that the four wheeler, and a pickup truck he had in his possession were stolen, and he has more charges from the alleged thefts.

Tonight, dunning remains in christian county custody, without bond.
