In the city's general fund - projections indicate the city will be operating with 6-million dollars less than anticipated.

The shortfall - a result of ongoing coronavirus impacts to the community.

For instance - the city is looking at a reduction of 600- hundred thousand dollars due to chico state moving classes online, and parking revenue is projected to be down almost five-hundred thousand dollars.

Action news now talked with city manager mark orme about the proposed budget.

He says people - as you might expect, want roads fixed, adequate police and fire protection and other services... but says the city has outlined a "responsible" budget plan for the community.

You go down the list of essential services that we provide, and this budget will get us there but people are always going to want more, but unfortunately we can't give them more now until we get through this pandemic economic impact."

The proposed budget also outlines the lay- off of 11 city positions*an* a hiring freeze for 24 positions.

That includes the chief of police and the airport manager.

The meeting will be tonight at 6 o clock.
