Two UNA employees, one student test positive

In lauderdale county.

2 faculty members and a student at the university of north alabama are self- quarantining after testing positive for the coronavirus.

These 3 cases are the first ones reported by the university since the pandemic began!

Waay31's megan reyna spoke with current and former students today.

She learned these cases may keep some students from returning to campus in the fall.

Walker says:"i'm just really shocked that it came here and happened, its just heartbreaking."

U-n-a student nick walker says he's been impressed with how the university has handled this pandemic.

But its still been an adjustment.

Walker says:"it was my freshmen year of college and you know i come into it thinking its just going to be the best year of my life, then it gets cut short then me and many of my buddies were heartbroken."

The university chose to clear the campus back in march.

Only certain faculty members and staff have been allowed to return since.

For recent graduate margaret carpenter -- it wasn't easy adjusting to online learning.

Carpenter says:"pretty complicated, difficult for a lot of people."

While she won't be heading back to campus -- she has several friends who are.

She says after learning about these three cases on campus -- its a reminder this pandemic is not over.

Carpenter says:"i don't know if anybody feels like we're going to get back to normal in the next few months, i don't know if anyone has those expectations, so i feel like everybody is cautious and feeling things out these next few months."

And for walker -- he too is having doubts now about returning to campus in the fall.

Walker says:"see, i was eager, but now that you give me the news, i might have to, i might have to switch to an online schedule" megan says:"when students do return there will be social distancing guidelines in place.

We also know the university has used contact tracing to determine who else on campus may have come in contact with the three people.
