On The Beat 1/3/20 - Robert's Apothecary Advice

Welcome to on the beat everyone.

I'm back here with robert white from robert's apothecary.

Welcome to the show my friend.

We're going to break this down.

We're going to talk about a lot of things within your pharmacy.

But first of all when i first met you i wanted to know where you got the name apothecary from.

Tell everyone.

Apothecary came from england in the sixteen hundreds.

It was the first term applied to the chemist who would take herbal plants and extract liquid make a pulthist make some kind of medication that people could take for their health.

So it's been around for a long time.

But why did you want to re-brand apothecary or use that brand?

Well, my father was a pharmacist.

The name of his pharmacy was white's drug store.

Okay.

When i built my own i wanted to change the name.

So i narrowed down the scope to have only health related items and hence apothecary.

Okay.

But, i'm sure people know what it is now but back in the day& almost no one here knew what an apothecary was but they do now.

Okay.

We've been here almost forty years.

Interesting that you said it came about in the sixteen hundreds.

And we are going to be talking about a product that i take everyday and it's fish oil.

Okay.

I'm sure back in the day they used a lot of the natural remedies to cure things.

Right.

Sure.

Do you see us turning back that clock and going back to those type of times instead of using all the antibiotics that we're so use too?

There has been a movement in that direction for probably some fifteen or twenty years now.

Yeah.

There more and more herbal products, natural products, uh used to treat disease.

They tend to have fewer side effects than the very strong perscription medication.

Alright.

Now let's get into fish oil.

Sure.

Omega three..

Am i correct?

Omega three fatty acids.

What is it?

Those are..

They come from the oil of cold water fish..

Like salmon, mackerel, sardines, anchovies rich in the omega threes.

And they have many health benefits& ranging from improving the entire cardiovascular system..

As in it will help, in some people, lower elevated blood pressure.

It will help lower elevated cholestrol.

Wow.

Ah it also helps with inflammation like in joints or skin inflammation, arthritis.

It also helps to balance brain chemistry.

And..

I need a bit of that& need some of that.

Let's take a little bit of difference between the pharmaceutical grade fish oil and the ones that are not.

There are a number of different companies that make fish oil.

Mmm.

And the less expensive ones are not pharmaceutical grade and the difference is the better grade, the higher grade, will remove the mercury the pcb's the dioxins..

It's filtered to where you get only the benefits and not any of the harsh chemicals that the fish are exposed to or anything else..

Gotcha gotcha..

Alright.

Now, some people don't like taking fish oil because they feel it has an odor to it.

And there inlies the pharmaceutical grade.

Uh.

The odor usually comes from the thrashy stuff& ohh& that the fish has been exposed to in the water.

And the higher grades will add lemon or orange flavor, natural of course, so if you taste anything it will be either one of those..yes..two fruits.

Alright.

Look we're running out of time.

I'd love to delve into more.

I love that you are going to be coming on the show every month and breaking this down.

Of course you can find all the information on the website.

Pop on over to robert's apothecary.

Robert white will be there behind the counter giving you such great advice.

Thank you sir.

I'm, i'm really looking forward to these conversations.

Back after this short break.
