Calvary Baptist Church is the first to get high speed broadband internet from North East MS Power Association.

Speed broadband internet is something many local power associations are working toward.

Northeast power association hooked up its first customer last week.

Wtva's chelsea brown is live in oxford with the timeline for the rest of the county.

Calvary baptist church is northeast power's first customer to receive high speed broadband internet.

I spoke with one of the pastors of the church about the kind of internet service others in the county can look forward to.

"it is extremely faster than what we were paying for previously" andrew basinger is the worship and student pastor at calvary baptist church.

He says the internet has helped church administrators tremendously especially while streaming church services.

"within the covid-19 crisis it has been the only way we have been open until recently we started meeting again."

I spoke with randall abel the manager of engineering and operations for northeast power about how long it will take for other customers to see highspeed internet.

Sot- (randall abel- manager engineering and operations for northeast power) "our goal is to hook up 25 next week and get to where we are hooking up 50 a week."

The project is expected to last 40 months and he hopes to complete it on time.

He has heard a lot of positive feedback about the internet.

"so far the response has been outstanding" basinger says the church is paying much less for the internet as well.

"it is a big need in our community, and it's affordable we are paying less than what we did for an inferior product" north east power association has 24,000 members.

Over 5900 of those members already preregistered for internet service.
