Vo: when tupelo native james hawkins posted his design on facebook and twitter , he didn't know it would get a lot of attention from local artists and mississippians.
His flag features the mississippi state bird, the mockingbird.
It also has one star that represents togetherness and a golden sun that stands for the state's agriculture.
James said it was important that an artist who designs the flag be familiar with mississippi's history.
