Construction is underway on a new douglas high school in winston..

And some community members were there to see years of memories come down.

Voters passed a 16 million dollar bond last year, to rebuild most of the main school.

It will include 10 new classrooms... and a brand new gym.

Board chair lorna quimbysays they're trying to preserve some of the old buildings -- and, some alumni are raising money to relocate a 1950's mural that supposed to be torn down next year.

Some people are nostalgic over the fact that it is coming down, but others look at the overall picture that wow, wee going to have a new facility?

It something theye been talking about for years, and many people told me they still can believe it finally coming to life?

Principal craig anderson says while the community says goodbye to the old school... and all the memories made inside these halls.
