Sheriff's offices across the state held press conferences Wednesday to urge the state to support law enforcement and upcoming proposals to protect personnel.

Sheriffs to oneida county this monring for one of five simultaneous press conferences happening around the state.

They're calling on the state legislature to pass 10 new laws they're proposing, to protect their officers and the public they serve.

They want to see the level of penalty for assault on a police officer raised by one degree.

They want crimes committed against police officer....because of their status as a police officer ....to be a hate crime.

And, they would like may 15th to be declared a state holiday, in honor of the more than 15- hundred officers who've died in the line of duty in the state.

Like any other career, we are not perfect.

Police officers make mistakes.

Police officers need to be held accountable when they make mistakes, but at the same time, we've got to be given the tools to do our job and we can't have our hands tied" 22:17:32 of course, all this would have to be passed by the entire state legislature.

Sheriff maciol says this, this morning, was the roll-out, and he has not yet spoken with legislators about the proposals.
