4J releases plan for fall classes

Eugene School District 4J is the latest district to release its plans for fall classes.

Hospital there.

Many school districts plan to combine online and in person teaching... in the fall.

We have team coverage of what districts have announced plans so far..

We begin with kezi 9 news reporter chris lueneburg who is live at 4j headquarters with their plan..

Matt, renee-- when 4j students walk through the halls for the first time this fall-- not all of their friends will be there.

In fact, when classes begin on september 14-- it'll be all online... with students returning in-person learning on an alternating schedule in october.

That means two groups of students will alternate between online and in-person learning every other week... with an option for fully-online learning if a family chooses to do so.

One single-income family i spoke to today says they'd actually choose fully in-person if they could... because sharing a single computer between their two girls for remote learning... all while working the night shift hasn't been easy.

Training them to practice safe methods-- social distancing, wearing masks, santiizing your hands, might be pretty tricky here and there.

Being 5 for my oldest and 4 for my youngest they've both been very adamant about washing their hands regularily."

4j says it'll be following state safety guidance... including social distancing, having consistent groups of students for contact tracing purposes and much more.

But here's the issue hanging above all of this-- officials says that families need to be ready to return to all-online learning in case the pandemic worsens.
