United way of greater lafayette volunteers are making masks for kids in need.

The organization is partnering with the greater lafayette sewing masks group.

These mask will go to students starting classes this fall.

United way has donated many of the masks to the salvation army's tools for school event.

The rest will be dropped at different schools throughout the county.

The masks were intentionally made with a white fabric so kids can decorate them.

United way leaders are hoping this encourages young students to stay safe.

We're trying to get the kids excited about wearing their masks so that they can personalize it and maybe they'll be a little more excited to put that one stay safe while they're in school.

Ebony barrett says this is only the beginning.

She says united way plans to continue finding ways to give aside from monetary donations.
