Allen County school districts preparing for meal distribution

Nat krista 18:56for a long time we have actually had students eating breakfast in the classroom.krista stockman with fort wayne community schools says the staff has seen positive results providing school meals in the classroom.nat krista 19:25that was definitely one of the benefits that we knew going into this.lower third: krista stockman, fwcs public information officer sot krista 19:05we have found that more students would actually eat breakfast if we did it that way, especially at the secondary level.now lunch will also be served in the classroom and stockman says the plan is to send students to the cafeteria in smaller groups to reduce traffic in the hallways.she says while this will be the most efficient way to serve students, it raises the question of when teachers will be able to eat.sot krista 21:11 we know that our staff members need lunch too, if the kids are in the classroom the whole time when do our staff members get to take lunch?

As those things come up and we learn, maybe there is another way we can do it.at northwest allen county schools, students will remain eating lunch in the cafeteria.lower third: leeanne koeneman, nacs food service director sot leeane 29:43we are going to be doing a lot of the serving, the kids won't be doing the serving.

They may take an individual portion thats pre cupped.food service director leeane koeneman says the start of every school year creates the need for new food service staff sot leeane 30:10always looking for some superstars out there that love to feed kids, and have a smile behind the maskespecially since there will be limited situations when students will be able serve themselves.nat leeane 34:10just looking forward to getting them through as efficiently as possible.one major change at the high school level for nacs is adding a fourth lunch period.

Sot leeane 32:06 33:41by moving to four lunches from 3 lunches at the high school, that will help us reduce by about 150 students per lunch service .

Then we will be going from 8 lines to four lines which will alow for us to get them through a little faster with having less students per lunch.nacs will also be enforcing assigned seating for elementary students in order to limit interactions between students in different classrooms.both school districts say they are focusing on efficiency, but above all is the safety of students and staff.sot krista 21:34we are going to be flexible, we need our staff to be flexible, students and parents.

Because we havent done this before, no one has.
