Tupelo school district receives shipment of thermal scanners
Scanners can check temperature from multiple feet away

In tupelo where he talked with leaders about how the new scanners work and other measures they are taking to prevent the spread of coronavirus .

Tupelo superintendent dr. rob picou, a school principal, and the school district's director of operations and security met me at the at the early childhood education center to show me the thermal scanners.

The scanners are but one part of the district's multi-faceted approach to fighting the coronavirus.

"we'll be checking every child and staff member as they come into the building."

Charles laney is the director of operations and security for the tupelo public school district.

He showed us the new thermal scanner which can read a person's temperature from several feet away.

He said there will be several at each school.

"and the main reason for going with this is the speed of being able to get a large amount to students into the building during the morning times."

Natsotbreak..

Hello i'm haley stewart... the early childhood education center held a virtual open house for parents and students to let them see what the inside of the school will look like before students arrive.

It's just one more step the district is taking to fight the coronavirus.

(haley stewart-principal ecec) "open house was done a little bit differently this year.

Out of 252 families we talked to 238 families that day and since then we have talked to the other 12 families .

So what we saw was a huge turnout.

The school will take all of the other required measures every day as well.

But the superintendent says that with all of these measures, it's still a good idea to leave sick children at home.

"and two of the aspects of protocol that are going to be most important are going to be these masks, making sure everyone wears a mask in the community to keep our entire community safe and the other thing is going to be to self-check your own child in the morning."

Dr. picou said that if a child shows up for school running a fever, that child will be sent back home.
