Six positive cases, 300 + Students Qurantining

School.

Now, limestone county is dealing with more students learning virtually than expected.

Waay 31's ashley carter joins us live now with how the district is handling these new cases limestone county superintendent randy shearouse says the students were quarantined after being around someone who has the virus or someone who was showing possible symptoms. he says it's not surprising to see it in the schools because the county is still seeing community spread.

According to shearouse, 40 of the students in quarantine are from elkmont high school.

18 of those students are on the football team.

Just in the first four days of school starting, he said between 150 and 160 students at east limestone high school were asked to quarantine because they came contact with a student showing possible coronavirus symptoms. "i think we knew that we were going to have cases and i think all the experts knew that schools were going to have cases.

Once again, a reflection of the community, a reflection of society and that was going to happen.

And so we had all the safety protocols in place to make sure all our students were wearing masks.

And i'll say our students have done a great job with that, shearouse says some quarantined students are now returning to school because the person showing symptoms they were in contact with received negative test results.
