For gym-goers across the area, Monday has been a long time coming.

After 5 months of being closed, gyms are now back open for business.

In order to stay open, gyms need to make sure the facility and those that use it meet the standards set by the state at all times.

Of being closed, gyms can now reopen.

Today people tried to get backtt new goals.

Newschannel 2's brent kearney spoke to gym goers about how they're adjusting to the new rules for gym goers across the state nat today has been a long time coming., .

None .

None todd says: "its good to be back and not in isolation anymore and its nice to be able to come here."

For elite fitness owner james tangorra, today is more than about reopening, its the grand opening of his new facility here in herkimer.

James says: "its been a long time coming, i've been in the gym business for over three years.

Its always been my plan to get out of my old spot and into a new one."

Ashley says "i think its great to get back into the routine.

I think its easy just finding the extra time anywhere i can today i specifically blocked out time so i could spend time here."

The new rules require james to check the temperature of every person walking in the door.

Masks are required machines are spaced apart to promote social distancing.

Changes james says has already drawn some people away.

"i know i've had a few people say they're not coming in just because of that.

I told them hopefully it doesn't last forever and hopefully i can get them back in after the mask thing is over with."

"now just going around and talking to people its not the extra cleaning or the social distancing that seems to be the new challenges for people when they come into the gym.

Its the masks some people don't like the idea others say it actually helps their workout."

"i actually liked it because it restricted my breathing because it will actually help me have more endurance when i don't need to use the mask."

Whether you like the rules or not, james says his business depends on people following them.

"you either have to play by the rules or going to put have to politely ask you to leave because we dont wanna jeopardize our business by not having anybody listen to us i would rather not be riding with her but i am wearing itso.y exame."
