Well in sports, some games just mean more than others..
And i'm not talking about the ones where there are championships or bragging rights on the line..i'm talking about the games where you, and everyone who's on the field with you, is playing for something bigger than the sport itself..and that is exactly what we saw in ligonier tonight...???west noble boys soccer playing its first home game since the tragic death of their teammate... senior anthony reyes, better known as tony, died in a car accident last week at age 17... on saturday, the team paying tribute to their fallen brother in a number of ways... a beautiful memorial on display right beside the field... ???just before the game... the chargers, all wearing shirts with reyes' name on the back, embrace tony's parents with flowers and hugs...???as the game kicks off, both west noble and wawasee start a man down... ball is kicked out of bounds by erik medina, who was in that car with reyes but thankfully survived...???as for the game itself, it was scoreless until the 12th minute... and perhaps some assistance from above here for the chargers... free kick goes off the head of a wawasee defender and in for the goal... it's 1-0 west noble..
???wawasee would equalize, but west noble gets it right back... henry torres dribbles free and finishes with his left foot... and then pays tribute to reyes with the celebration at midfield... ???chargers roll from there... they go on to win this one by a score of 9-1... and after the final buzzer sounds, they gather around the number seven that's now painted on the field for one last salute to tony reyes... 3
