Indiana State Police on board with body cams, when you can expect to see them
Healing."
Body cams are soon headed to more police departments in indiana... and you'll find them worn by both indiana state police..
And the terre haute police department.
As news 10's jordan kudisch explains..
State police say the goal is to have more transparency..
And efficency.
I spoke with sgt.
Matt ames with i-s-p.
He says you won't see these cams until next spring..
But here's why he argues..
It's worth the wait.
That's because he believes it will help build trust within the community..
And help speed up court proceedings.
Next spring..
You'll see around "700" body cameras being introduced.
They'll be worn by designated troopers..
And front line supervisors.
Right now..
The initial purchase will cost 5-million dollars..
And then an annual data storage fee of 1.2 million dollars.
Ames says despite the cost..
From what he's heard-- they're excited to have these new tools.
"they're excited about getting them.
They're wanting to have the camera there with them so that people can see what "they're excited about getting them.
They're wanting to have the camera there with them so that people can see what we do out here and present that information to the court when we do make an arrest."
In the next half hour..
More on why state police want to bring these tools into action.
