When you're when you're outside you may notice more activity coming from the wildlife.

Bats will be more active during this time....and they tend to be one of the main carriers of the rabies disease.

News 10's bri shackelford let's us know how we can track this.

While we may be focused on the pandemic...there are still other diseases out there that could hurt us.

At 5 o'clock we told you about why it was so important to get your pet vaccinated for rabies.

Now i'll let you know about one brand new tool that makes this disease easier to track.

[take pkg outcue: pets to get duration:1:18] indiana state offices have launched a new website.

Officials are hoping this will answer a lot of the general questions that people have about the rabies disease.

"so, we think it's going to be a great resource for both medical and veterinary professionals as well as the general public."

Multipule indiana state offices came together in order to form this resource.

Rabies program director sandi norman says her department gets questions about rabies all the time.

"it's one of our most common questions that comes into this office, and so that we can offer this and can answer a lot of questions."

While the website is a great tool to use norman says you should be vaccinating your pets.

She says because pet owners are using vaccinations...we don't see many cases of rabies anymore.

Although the numbers are low she says.... "rabies is still by and large if you get it a hundred percent fatal disease.

So, nobody wants rabies."

Vaccines will help not only keep your pets safe...but could save "your" life as well.

Norman also tells me we should not be feeding the wildlife or taking wildlife "into" our homes.

"wildlife were meant to live in the wild, and they do carry not only rabies, but some other parasites and diseases that we don't want, and that we don't want our pets to get."

Pets to get."

Don't want our pets to get."

Pets to get."

Pets to get."

Pets to get."

The vigo county health department says so far no animals in the area have tested positive for rabies this year.

However...animals are starting to be more active outdoors.

Just this week the health department sent 3 bats to indianapolis to get tested for the disease.

We are still waiting on the results of those tests.
