3 police in opelousas are investigating two shootings... one overnight sending a woman to a hospital and endangeringa small child... another this morning... police say a man shot his nephew over an argument.

Police are still searching for those responsible, but now many are scared for their loved ones.

News 1's rain augustine has the latest.

Rain... stand up: candace, an adult recieved minor inuroes to her face as a result of last nights shooting in the 500 block of planters street.

Police say that more than 30 rifle and pistal rounds were shot at the home, which was occupied by three people and a small child.... then, less than 24 hours later a second shooting occured in opelousas.

This time at the intersection of pandora and church streets.

Police say 33 year old thaddeus thomas is wanted on second degree murder charges... i spoke with a long time opelousas resident who says the victim of this morning shooting was a close friend of his.

I spoke with a long time op resident who says the victim was a close friend of his.... "...he spoke to me this morning, and come to find out he got shot by his nephew," this opelousas resident, who prefers to remain anonymous, has lived in the area for almost 50 years.

"i's like two streets from my moms house, and i be concerned about my mom you know," they say the recent gun violence keeps them up at night, but they worry about the neihborhoods women and childrens the most "how do you sleep at night when you thinking when you hear, close by, somebody shooting on the street that they stay on."

The community member went on to explain how they believe increased law enforement in the area may prevent future dive by shootings.... anyone with information on either of these shootings should call opelousas police.
