C1 3 beyond just making sure kids can pass a test.

Amy harris: i wanted to have an impact.

I wanted to be a person they knew they could rely on.

They could come talk to me about anything and be in their lives.

For 19 years amy harris has been doing just that.

As a first grade teacher at wellington elementary she has had the chance to play big roll in making sure kids get that foundation for the rest of their schooling years.

Amy harris: the academic portion obviously is so necessary but were the first ones to teach them it can be fun so teaching them to have fun is so important because it's gonna be an uphill battle otherwise.

That's why she was nominated.... in a time when a pandemic has separated teachers and students physically, ms. harris has made sure she knows her kids, even visiting them in person... six feet apart and with a mask of course.

Classes are happening online which she says has been interesting to say the least.

Amy harris: i've seen many little bros and sis more than i've ever seen, i've seen everyone's pet.

She says it hasn't been an easy first couple weeks but she just wants it to be as normal as possible for her students and parents.

That commitment is exactly what makes her our abc 36 teacher of the week.
