Dakota simon takes us inside the program..

And it's expansion..

Pkg: nat fountain purdue university continues to uphold its promise of a well rounded education..

The college of liberal arts developed the cornerstone program to provide students from all over campus..

An opportunity to learn philosophy or literature..

Reingold: the certificate itself is designed to try and broaden sort of people's horizons..

Especially those who normally spend most of their time in places like grissom hall of industrial engineering..

Nicholas: taking a stop in the middle of the day to just kind of read a book, or just kind of talk with other students is a really great opportunity and i enjoy coming to class.

Nicholas buffo is one of those students who makes a stop inside the wilmeth active learning center every week..

He's a first year engineering student..

But he's also enrolled in one of cornerstone's first year classes..

Where he's developing skills that'll last..

Nicholas: way beyond college, definitely i know if i ever have to standup and give a presentation, it's developing those same oral skills going all the way back to freshman year of college.

Now, students from across the country will have access to the same programs as nicholas..

Melinda: it's more than we ever expected!

Melinda zook is cornerstone's director..

She helped create a program with simplicity in mind..

Melinda: they can get students a better liberal arts education..

And that's all we are trying to do.

Nicholas: it's kind of that first pivot, that first rung in the latter to life beyond college.
