What bars are doing to stay safe after they are able to stay open late again.
Emergency session yesterday.
Waay 31's sydney martin is live in huntsville tonight after learning what local leaders think about the call.
Here at huntsville city hall today - local officials told me they will be watching closely to see what happens over the next few weeks as bars and restaurants are able to stay open late again.
They told me they think the a-b-c board will be watching as well.
Huntsville mayor tommy battle is asking people to act responsibly, social distance, and wear a mask if they choose to go out.
The abc's rule states you need to wear a mask when you're not eating or drinking.
The a-b-c board did say it will use state law enforcement agency alcohol enforcers to check in on bars throughout the week and make sure they are following the guidlines in the new order.
And both battle and huntsville hospital c-e-o told me if there is a spike in coronavirus cases and reports of violations - they don't think the a-b-c- board will hesitate to limit bar hours again..
"i think if they don't act responsibly i think the abc has the power to come back together and put in the same rules and stipulations they have.
I think that the restrictions at 11 o'clock have helped.
I believe that they have made sure people have stayed separated, sanitized etc.
Etc.
At least to some extent."
It's more important what people are doing when they're in the bars as opposed to what time they close, i'm not overly concerned that they're going to allow people to stay out longer.
I think where your going to have to manage that is communities where they have a lot of college aged people."
Now the a-b-c board did also say local governments have the right to put restrictions on alcohol sales if they deem it necessary.
It's unclear tonight if that's something that could be considered here in huntsville.
