Downtown YMCA Closes (9-30-20)

Is an emotional day for the staff and members of the ymca... st.

Joseph's downtown location closed its doors for good this afternoon.

The downtown "y" operated for 42 years, but the ymca board was faced with the difficult decision to close the doors due to multiple maitenance issues, and the organization's financial standing.

A member reflects on his time there since the very beginning.

I happen to work right across the street since they were open.

I try to get over here two or three times a week if i can.

It's a sad day.

I'm almost a past member of the board, years ago.

Hopefully some white knight will come by here and do something, i don't know.

But, you know, it's too bad a city this size don't have a family ymca.") the campus family ymca in the north village remains open for ymca members.
