MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - The Macon-Bibb County Fire Department is reminding residents about fire safety for Fire Prevention Week.
Ballots... can be received by november 6th... as long as they're post marked by election day ... which is november 3rd.
As fire prevention week approaches, the macon bibb county fire department reminds residents about fire safety.
The fire department joins the national fire protection association to promote this year's fire prevention week campaign, "serve up fire safety in the kitchen!"

According to the national fire protection association...cooking is the leading cause of house fires and injuries in the u-s.
They say--almost 44 percent fires start in the kitchen, and nearly 66 percent of those fires start with the ignition of food or other cooking materials.
"we get a numerous amount" fire educator, jeremy webb, says most kitchen fires are started by grease on the stove.
He says the department sees an increase in calls relating to fires during the holiday season.
"thanksgiving is the number one time we have appliance fires within the home."

He says to put out a grease fire household items such as baking soda or table salt will do the trick" "or you can use an abc fire extinguisher" according to webb, that specific type of fire extinguisher puts out levels a-b-and c fires.
Webb says level a fires include items such as paper, wood and plastic.
Level b is flammable liquids like gas or nitrogen.
And level c is electrical fires involving outlets and appliances.
"fire happens when you least expect it" according to safety and security manager for bibb county schools, corey gobel, people can easily get distracted while at home cooking.
He recommends using a timer, and avoid distractions like electronics or tv.
