Pike County Now in "Red" on Indiana's COVID-19 Risk Map

Pike County is now listed as the only county in the "red" on the state's Coronavirus dashboard.

This puts the community at the state's highest risk level.

Election.

While covid-19 continues to clamp down -- on the economy ---- it is also taking -- a treacherous path through rural tri-state communities.

Tonight -- a concerning surge of cases ---- has been pinpointed to pike county.

The outbreak ---- reminding everyone - there is no end in sight*with 3- hundred new covid-19 patients reported across the tri- state.

44news reporter valerie lyons -- is in pike county tonight -- with a look at the only hoosier community -- currently in the red zone.

While the state added more than 12-hundred new cases on wednesday bright spot on the map -- the new red classification -- puts the community at the state's highest risk level.

In total -- the county has seen -- 246 cases since march.

That doesn't sound like an alarming number -- but with such a small population positivity rate is now greater than 15 percent.

"right now i'm just following what the health department says and that's what we're going to keep doing and you know hopefully the good lord will look after us and we get through it all."

The rise is most likely tied to an outbreak at this nursing home residents are currently battling the virus.

Amber manor nursing home is also reporting 33 of its 96 staff have active cases according to the trilogy health services dashboard.

And while some aren't too concerned -- "i thought it was a little overestimated with everything since it's all going on in the nursing home, not really any students have it and they're just quarantining a bunch of us -- hasn't really changed much for me."

For one petersburg business owner-- whose restaurant sits just across the street from the facility -- the surge in numbers is concerning.

"i think about it very day, i have a lot of family and friends, family that works there, friend's that are in there so hoping they're all going to be alright."

And he says business has already affected.

"when that number stated rising again we saw that carryout number really jump back and come up big, so if it's not stopping people from coming out they're definitely going to be careful."

With the state's last stage of the back on track plan -- set to expire next week --- hoosier are wondering if governor holcomb will choose to walk back restrictions.
