Fire prevention day/week

This time of year...there are a number of hazards that can start fires..
Fs img txt bullets:no fire prevention week & day fire.jpg #1 cause: kitchen fires ..
-electric range ... but the number one cause of fires at your home..year round..start in the kitchen!
According to a study...by the national fire prevention association..
Homes with electric ranges...have a higher risk of fire..than those with gas.
However -- leaving your food unattended....is the leading cause of these fires.
One of the easiest ways to put out almost any fire of course...a fire extinguisher.
And if you've never used one..
Its just four steps..
Pull the pin..
Aim... squeeze... and then sweep from side to side to put it out.
It takes just minutes for fires to spread out of control..
You may remember in 2009-- the ul firefighter safety research institute..put out a video comparing how fast a fire can take over a home the agency has recreated that video... to incorporate some new data..
The rooms..are identical..except the left has furtniture made with natural materials.
The right..
With synthetic.
Watch closely..you can see the synthetic room..reaches the flashover point..in just 4 minutes!
But it takes the natural room..almost 30!
Some ways to protect you in your family from these disasters... close your door at night when you go to sleep.
Make sure you have working smoke alarms..and an escape plan already in place.
And a quick reminder---we are in wilfire hazard season right now..
Through december.
That means you cannot burn anything between 6 am and 6 pm within 150 feet of woodland...fields..or other flammabale materials.
Time now?
We'll be back!
