Have been for months now.

With cases on the rise here in lane county -- the university of oregon has come up with a way for students to report activity that violates health and safety protocols.

It's a form that you fill out online.

And, as kezi 9 news reporter julian mininsohn shows us..* some students say it's an invasion of privacy.

As of friday morning the university of oregon had 80 new coronavirus cases this week...288 since june 1st.

The uo has implemented many resources to combat the spread of covid-19...including a behavioral concern form for students to report anyone who isn't following health and safety guidelines around campus.

Some students say it's a little much.

(aaron) "if my friend group has 12 people in it.

Suddenly it's illegal to hang out with only my friend group."

(julian) the behavorial concern form can be found on the uo website.

How it works is students fill out their information as well as the information of the person or group of concern.

There is even a spot to upload pictures or videos supporting their claim.

One student i talked says it doesn't promote a healthy campus culture.

(student) "it could be a picture from a year in a half ago.

It could not even be that person.

There are so many variables that can change behind social media and things like that."

According to the uo's 58-page plan to safely operate the university during the coronavirus pandemic off- campus students will be sent an educational notice for a first time offense.

Students will be forwarded to student conduct and community standards for multiple offense, egregious behavior or student group situations.

While benhamou is pleased the university is taking the necessary steps to hold students accountable, he says they need to be throrough when investigating certain caims. (student) "if it's a systematic behavioral problem of one person than i think that warrants a more severe punishment.

If it's a one-time thing, you're going out and you're not a serial infector, there's people in charge that make decisions but a harsher punishment will lead to a more serious understanding by the student body."

According to the uo website, students who fill out the behavioral concern form may be contacted to gather additional information.

And incomplete information may limit the uo's ability to investiugate and respond to concerning behavior.
