Hometown Tours - The Design Center Mount Sterling

Lyssa High continues her tour of Mount Sterling with Tracy Pierce, Director of Tourism for Mount Sterling and Lorna Colliver, owner of The Design Center!

Also with lorna colliver.

She is the owner of the cutest little business right here called the design center.ladies, thank you so much for having us today.

Tracy pierce: love having you.

Lisa: now let's talk about, first of all, you have a very special event coming up this weekend.

Let's talk about it and let the viewers know what this is all about.

Tracy pierce: absolutely.

Thank you, lisa.we here in mount sterling are rolling out the carpet.

We're actually rolling out the items. we're having a fall fun sidewalk sale.

All the mount sterling businesses that are participating will have some really good deals on fall merchandise because they're making way for christmas, because we're going to behaving christmas right around the corner.

So we're having a big sale.

And then that's from 10:00 till 4:00 this saturday.

And if you buy anything from any of our participating merchants, you can come by main street park, right in the center of downtown, and pick up a free goodie bag.

Now that is while supplies last, lisa.

Lisa: all right, all right.

Tracy pierce: depends on how much shopping gets done.

Lisa: i better get here early then.

Tracy pierce: that's right.

But it's full of awesome merchandise that all the different merchants have donated.

So following that, from 10:00 till 4:00, is the sidewalk sale.

But then from 5:00until 10:00, we're having a big cruise-in at the courthouse and downtown, and it's a halloween cruise-in.

So we will be having costume contest, as well.

And just reminder, we are recommending social distancing and we are practicing that.

Also we encourage a mask, the downtown merchants, all the merchants, are requiring masks to enter their store.

And then also we will have sanitizers available and things like that.

So we just want to encourage you to enjoy this beautiful small town.

Enjoy it, but also responsibly.

Lisa: exactly, exactly.

It's such acute town.

It's so many different merchants all through here, and the design center.

Now, lorna, let's talk about this.

This is a new shop for downtown down here.

Lorna colliver: oh yes, yes, fairly new.

Lisa: tell us all about what it is that you do.

Lorna colliver: a little bit of everything.actually, as you can see from the store, we have an eclectic mix of things.

We love antiques.

We love decorating fresh flowers.

Incredible.

We do a lot of custom work, custom design.

We have a lot of local artists, soap makers.

We really try to support local art in the community.

And it's exciting.

We're so excited to be here.

Lisa: oh, and it's such a beautiful store.

Lorna colliver: oh, thank you.

Lisa: we love it so much.

Lorna colliver: thank you.

Lisa: now we were talking before we did the segment here, people can walk in.

They might have a beautiful vase that they want to use and you can design a flower arrangement right there lorna colliver: absolutely, absolutely.

I've been doing this so long, i could do it in my sleep, i think.

But every container is different.

Every need is different.

I love that aspect of it.

It keeps you fresh.

I just love it.

I love sharing the flowers.

Lisa: that's fantastic.

What do you love most about being in downtown mount sterling?

Lorna colliver: oh dear, that's tough.

That's a tough question.

We're such a great tight-knit community, group of local business owners.

We support each other.

We get along great.

We're friends and it's a neat downtown atmosphere, but it's becoming a destination.

Lisa: absolutely.

It really is.

Lorna colliver: absolutely.
