With the colder months coming and the pandemic that continues to spread, the ladies from the fitness factor stress the importance of exercise to boost the immune system

Whitney brown: good morning and welcome to get fit friday.

I'm whitney brown, here with beth jeffers, and we're at the fitness factor in columbus talking about how exercise can improve your health, specifically as we get into flu season and we're still working through covid.

So, we want to know and we want to give you some tips on how and why you should be exercising through this kind of uncertain time.

Right?

Beth jeffers: right.

Definitely, and exercise is huge.

Exercise and eating right, taking care of yourself.

Boy, i know we've all seen that on tv lately, how important that is to kind of have a clean slate on that and be in good health, and the first way to start is by doing some activity.

The american college of sports medicine is kind of our guideline in the fitness industry, and one of the things they really talk about is the fact that exercise helps your immune system.

Whitney brown: absolutely.

Beth jeffers: and that is a big deal as well as we've seen that the cardiovascular helps your heart, exercise as far as ... and also your overall wellbeing, your weight.

Whitney brown: right.

Beth jeffers: you know, obesity is a big factor too.

Whitney brown: sure, and it can also help your mental health.

So, we're talking about reducing stress, getting outside.

Just being outdoors can be helpful for you just to feel better overall mentally.

It also helps you with sleep.

There's a lot of research being done in the fitness industry on sleep and the lack thereof and how it affects your health.

So, there's a lot of components that exercise can help with, even if it's not just weight specific.

Beth jeffers: right, and i think that people think that you have to kind of kick tail every time you come in the gym.

Heck, start moving.

Go out, walk to your mailbox if you're not doing anything.

Get out and about.

Of course, we love a gym.

We'd love for you to come in a gym, but that's not the ticket.

The ticket is your good health.

Get out and get moving.

Kind of make yourself a little breathless.

That'll kind of train you a little bit.

That's kind of a good rule of thumb- whitney brown: i think so too.

Beth jeffers: ... as far as when you start walking.

Whitney brown: right, and it can be simple.

It doesn't have to be crazy complicated in terms of your eating and your fitness.

Just move a little more and eat a little bit better.

Start small and overall that's going to add up big time.

Beth jeffers: right, and we can't emphasize it enough that it's your choice.

Whitney brown: that's right.

Beth jeffers: and you make that choice to be healthy or not.

And gosh, it only takes 15 or 20 minutes a day, three times a week, and you're going to see some health benefits.

So, put that on your agenda this week.

Just walk to your mailbox every day, and you'll be in good shape.

Hopefully your mailbox is not on your front porch.

Whitney brown: maybe it's a couple miles away.

Beth jeffers: that's right, or two miles away.

But anyway, just get healthy, america.

Columbus, mississippi, in the gtr.

We're with you, and have a good week this week, and start today.
