One family who lost their home to the fire, is retelling what it was like making it through the South Obenchain Fire

Feeling the impact.

The fire destroyed almost 90 homes, before it was fully contained.

Newswatch 12's brett taylor joins us live in eagle point where the fire burned down some of the homes in the area.

Brian sharon and mike bateman have lived on top of this hillside for almost 30 years.

Before the south obenchain swept down from the mountainside and took almost everything, including their home from them.

Vo: on the day of the south obenchain fire sharon and mike bateman tried to remain positive.

[take :mike & sharon] çááámike & sharonáááñ sot: initially you think its not gonna take your house, you think that your house is still gonna be there be when you get back.

Vo: but then the fire began to move closer and closer to their home.

Sot: "it just kept getting build up just more and more and the kids kept calling sayiong get out get out.

Vo: the fire was nearing the ad of but l highway just maybe a quarter mile away from eir homtwe didnt really gea ance to grab any personitem, tht .: thankfully the family made o.

T: it was a good thing that we got out when we did.

Vo: a few days later the family learned that their home didn't make it and would have to return home to assess what survived.

[take :mike & sharon] çááámike & sharonáááñ sot: ya you sit there and you've lived here since 92 and you are thinking of trying to retire and then something like this wipes you clean and you just think wow you've got to start all over again.

Its gonna be who knows how long before things get somewhat back to normal.

Vo: however the family says that even during this difficult time, the family will stay together and make it through this tragic event.
