Chico Unified students returned to campus Monday for in-person learning.

New at 5-thirty, action news now reporter dani masten shows us why today was bittersweet for some freshman -- embarking on this new milestone -- under these historic circumstances.

One freshman student here at chico high tells me that though this is not what she had in mind for her high school experience, she is just happy to be back on campus.

Nat sound of bell ringin* sot/olivia teague/ freshman at chico high i am excited that i am back on campus and although it is not what i expected, it is definitely better than nothing?

Freshman olivia teague (pronounced tea) tells me the best part of starting high school -- is the escape from the challenges of virtual learning.

There was just a lot of work and it was just very hard to manage my time because i had zoom classes in the morning and all this homework in the afternoon and it was chaotic.

I know some of the teachers struggled trying to figure out the online program and it was just difficult with that?

She says high school was intimidating enough before the pandemic..

Now she has to adapt to even more changes.

I mean i am a little nervous.

It is kind of weird having a different schedule every day and trying to figure out what my teachers want because there are all these new sets of standards for the classrooms?

And in the end..

She just hopes everything will soon return back to normal.

Everyone is hoping for that at this point because right now, we don know what come.

We are just hoping that eventually we can get back to normal so that we can have our homecoming and our almond bowl?

Dani ll and teague tells me that though she is fearful of the possibility that they could have to go back to all virtual classes, she remains hopeful that this won end up happening.
