Residents in Clay County made appointments to receive a drive-through coronavirus test.

Residents are still getting tested for the coronavirus after a surge in cases last week.

Wtvas nicole dantzler is live in west point after talking with one person who said getting tested is a way to do your part in slowing the spread.

Every monday the clay county health department transforms into a drive thru testing site..

Several residents made appointments to see if they have the coronavirus.

I am taking it serious.

This is a serious disease something that we've never had before."

Charles brown-resident charles brown and many other residents are taking the coronavirus seriously..

And their doing what they can to slow the spread of the virus by getting themselves tested.

"i try to take all safety precautions to protect me and others."

The university of mississippi medical center and state health department held a free testing site at the clay county health department.

Residents made appointments before driving up and members of the national guard administered the test while they sat in the car.

"i go to the va every so often and they take my temperature, i have a good temperature reading."

Not only does brown get temperature check but he also wears his mask.

Brown said he's concerned about the surge in cases this past week and encourages everyone to get tested at the weekly testing site..

"i say it's not over with and we just have to stay safe and keep doing what we're doing and hope and pray , thank god were still being here."

The free testing is available here in clay county every monday from 10-7 p-m.
