This week is "bus safety week"... and the st.

Joseph school district honored a man this morning who's dedicated three decades of his life to getting you and your kids to and from school safely.

Kq2's kilee thomas was at the apple bus company for the celebration: <<kilee thomas reporting ábus backing upá bus drivers- the people you trust getting your kids to school and back safely.

Sot: dr. doug van zyl, sjsd superintendent- "we want to make sure they realize how valuable and important they are to what we do on a daily basis."

And monday morning- a familiar face to the sjsd got a sweet treat for his dedicated career.

"thank you for all your dedication and hard work to the sjsd."

ánats of clappingá sot: stan aspey, bus driver- "i've been here for 30 years as a driver trainer and i have had no accidents in that 30 year period."

Stan aspey- a retired marine- has been driving your kids to and from schooláwreck freeá for three decades and has been teaching other drivers to do the same.

Sot: aspey- "been here for a very long time.

I've trained almost everybody on this lot."

Sot: van zyl- "they're the first people in the morning that the kids are greeted by outside of their family and the last person they're gonna see on their way home."

Like teachers-bus drivers can have a large impact on a student's life and luckily for aspey- he's been able to see that influence come to life.

Sot: aspey- "i had a young gentleman that i had years and years ago on my bus.

I saw him years later.

He came up and we were visiting a little bit and i found out that he had actually named his son after me.

So, that's a memory that will never go away, it'll live forever."

That strong bond with the kids walking on and off his bus is what apsey said makes him stop and realize how much he loves his job.

Sot: aspey- "if you love kids and wanna work with kids, this is one of the most gratifying jobs you'll ever have in your life."

Reporting in st.

Joseph, kilee thomas, kq2 news.>> the theme for national bus safety week is "red lights mean stop"... the school district says the week-long observance reminds parents, students, and motorists the importance of following traffic laws, and practicing good bus safety tips.
