Student at Douglas High School tests positive for COVID-19

KEZI did reach out to the Winston-Dillard School district Tuesday night to see if the school will be open following the positive case, but the office was closed for the evening.

9 news at 11" douglas high school announced tonight that a student has tested positive for covid-19.

Kezi nine news reporter connor mccarthy joins us live in the studio and tells us what the school is saying tonight.

Chynna-- douglas high school has been under fire since their doors open to for the school year.

Teachers protested the winston- dillard school districts plan on keeping students and staff safe... and a student gave pictures to kezi showing only a handful of people social distancing and wearing masks at the high school.

Now tonight we learned there is a positive case.

The district posted this statement on facebook.

We are working very closely with local public health and the oregon health authority to notify parents of the children in the cohort that the child that tested positive was in and are asking them to quarantine for 14 days and monitor for symptoms. douglas county public health officer-- bob dannenhoffer said this in a statement to the school district about the case.

Quote--although this is a third school outbreak that we've seen locally..

It's another example of a school utilizing student cohorts to reduce risk and mitigate transmission of covid-19 in a school setting.

Chynna-- he also says there's low risk of spread from this case in the community.

The district says if any student or staff member was part of the same cohort as this positive case-- they will be contacted by the school so they quarantine.

I did reach out to the district tonight to see if the school will be open tomorrow--- but i did not hear back.
