Three weeks after his arrest for driving under the influence, gridley city administrator paul eckert says he will resigned from his position.

Action news now reporter esteban reynoso is live in gridley.

Esteban, what do we know so far?

Eckert's decision came after a special closed meeting yesterday with the gridley city council.

He was arrested for dui back on october 3rd.

And according to butte county district attorney mike ramsey, eckert was driving a city vehicle at the time.

"if i was pulled over in a dui in a company vehicle, termination on the spot."

This long-time gridley resident didn't want to go on camera, but says she's furious that the council allowed eckert to simply resign.

"i don't think it's enough.

And the city council decides to accept his resignation instead of terminating him?

Why?

Why are they being so lenient to him, when if it would've been me or jane doe that would've done this, i know for a fact, i know for a fact i would not have been let off this easily."

Butte county d-a mike ramsey says eckert was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence october 3rd.

"now he's getting caught in a company vehicle that we pay for."

We reached out to mayor bruce johnson over the phone nats he did not pick up our calls, and we left a voicemail that has not been returned.

Wednesday, during public comment at the gridley city council meeting, others made clear their frustration with everything that's happened.

"i think the general consensus at least from what i've seen and what i heard, is that this particular incident, leaves a huge blemish on the community."

"oh no, he didn't hit the standard.

He should've been held to a much higher standard.

They represent the community and should represent the community's standards, and i don't believe that he has in anyway shape or form."

Shortley after eckerts arrest earlier this month, mayor johnson told action news now that no action would be taken against eckert until the legal process had run it's course.

That all changed yesterday with eckert's resignation.

We were unable to reach eckert for comment.

We should point out that he has not been convicted.

The d.a.

Is awating toxicology results and eckert will be arraigned in decembers.

Live in gridley, esteban reynoso for action news now.

Eckert is not leaving the job immediately.

He will be on paid administrative leave through november 30th, working remotely on critical city services, as the city searches for a replacement.
